Paul Wehage (né le 2 avril, 1963 à Grand Forks, ND USA) est un compositeur, chef d'orchestre, saxophoniste et musicologue.

Biographie

Paul Wehage a étudié à l'Université de Texas à Austin avant d'entrer au CNSM de Paris où il a gagné un Premier Prix en Saxophone en 1990. Ses études se sont terminer avec des études privés avec la Soprano Française Renée Mazella.

Wehage a commencé sa carrière professionale comme concertiste, dans differentes ensembles de musique française et américaine. Sa collaboration avec Jean Françaix a donné nassaince à plusieurs oeuvres nouvelles, telle la version pour Saxophone Soprano et Orchestre de "L'Horloge de Flore", La version pour trois solistes vocaux et Quatuor de Saxophones de la comédie musicale "L'Apostrope" et la dernière oeuvre de Jean Françaix "Neuf Historiettes de Tallemande des Réaux" pour voix de Baryton, Saxophone Ténor et Piano. Antoine Tisné, Gian Paolo Chiti, Jeffrey Stolet ont été parmi les nombreux compositeurs qui ont écrits des oeuvres pour Wehage.

Ses travaux musicologique sur l'oeuvre de Germaine Tailleferre a montrer des aspects surprennants sur l'oeuvre et la vie de ce compositeur, et également sur le devenir de les oeuvres de Tailleferre après sa mort. Paul Wehage a orchestré deux oeuvres laissées en reduction pour piano: "Trois Etudes pour Piano et Orchestre" et "Sous le Rempart d'Athènes", musique de scène pour la pièce de Paul Claudel Actuellement, Wehage travaille sur la reconstruction de l'Opéra Comique "Il était un Petit Navire" (livret d'Henri Jeanson), une oeuvre qui était trunquée à sa création en 1951.

Parmi les oeuvres les plus notables de Paul Wehage, on peut citer sa "Stabat Mater" pour choeur de femmes, Le Concerto pour Saxophone Alto et Orchestre, une série d'oeuvre pour Saxophone et Piano, y compris "Royanji" pour Saxophone Contrebasse et Piano, "les Palissades Mystérieuses" pour Alto Saxophone and Piano, parmi des oeuvres pour instrument solo, orgue, piano, orchestre d'harmonie et différentes ensembles. Wehage est également connu pour sa série de transcriptions pour Saxophone des oeuvres de J. S. Bach.
